The RD-ID Chair focuses on digital identity from a responsible research and innovation (RRI) perspective.

Its objective is to align the development of digital identity with the values, needs, and expectations of society, by meeting the requirements of reliability, sustainability, inclusiveness, and desirability, in accordance with the principles set out in the Rome Declaration on Responsible Research and Innovation in Europe).

To this end, the Chair draws on scientific approaches from the Humanities and Social Sciences, combined with a participatory action-research methodology that is open to a wide range of stakeholders: researchers, businesses, civil society representatives, regulatory bodies, and end-users.

Its mission is to generate knowledge on the ‘non-technical’ dimensions of digital identity development and its various expressions: uses, practices, and social representations; processes and modalities of technological appropriation; and its connections to politics and democracy.

This knowledge is intended to inform industrial and policy decisions regarding the future development of digital identity. More broadly, it aims to contribute to public debate–both scientific and socio-political–on the social acceptability and regulation of technological innovation.
