Hosted within the Department of Social Sciences and Management at the Institut Polytechnique de Paris and the I3 Laboratory (Interdisciplinary Innovation Institute – UMR CNRS 9217), the Chair conducts interdisciplinary research on contemporary transformations of identity in the digital age.
The Chair is inspired by the principles of responsible research and innovation (anticipation, inclusiveness, reflexivity, transparency, and responsiveness) by developing a participatory action research approach. This approach considers the “non-technical” dimensions of digital identity and is open to a diverse range of stakeholders, including representatives from the scientific community, businesses, public authorities, civil society, as well as end-users.
The core scientific focus of the Chair is the study of uses, social practices and social representations, along with the processes and modalities of technological appropriation. It also explores intersections between digital identity, politics, and democracy.
The Chair conducts research on both national and international scales. These studies are discussed within a multidisciplinary and multi-stakeholder think tank, fostering co-construction of knowledge. The research aims to inform industrial and policy decisions regarding the future developments of digital identity and, more broadly, to contribute to the debate on the social acceptability and regulation of technological innovation.
